Frequently Asked Questions

What does BrickRedo specialize in?

Brick Redo specializes in professional brick refinishing, including staining, color correction, and aesthetic upgrades for residential and commercial properties. Our process enhances existing brick without covering up its natural texture and character.

What’s the difference between brick stain and paint?

Brick stain penetrates the brick surface and becomes part of it. Paint sits on top.

  • Stain preserves the natural texture and breathability of brick.
  • Paint forms a film that can trap moisture and eventually peel.

We focus on mineral-based staining systems designed specifically for masonry.

Will the brick texture still show?

Yes — unless a fully opaque system is selected.

Stain allows the natural variation and character of the brick to remain visible.

Is brick staining permanent?

Mineral-based brick stains are designed to be long-lasting. They chemically bond with the masonry rather than forming a surface layer. While no exterior finish is “forever,” properly applied stain does not peel or flake like paint.

Can you match a specific color?

We can create custom color blends and provide on-site samples before full application. Final color can vary slightly depending on:

  • Existing brick tone
  • Porosity
  • Mortar color
  • Sun exposure

Testing a sample area first is strongly recommended.

Do you test a small area first?

Yes. We typically start with a sample section to confirm color, opacity, and finish. This protects both you and us from unexpected results and ensures alignment before proceeding with the full project.

What if I change my mind after the sample?

Adjustments can be made during the sampling phase. Once the full application is complete, reversing or significantly altering color may require additional cost and labor.

Will staining damage my brick?

When done correctly with the proper materials, staining does not damage brick. In fact, it can help even out discoloration and improve overall appearance without compromising breathability.

Improper products (such as non-breathable coatings) can cause long-term issues — which is why product selection matters.

How long does the process take?

Most residential projects are completed within a couple of weeks, depending on:

  • Project size
  • Surface condition
  • Weather conditions
  • Desired finish

We provide a timeline estimate before beginning work.

How should I prepare my home?

We ask that:

  • Vehicles be moved away from work areas
  • Fragile décor near exterior walls be removed
  • Access to water and power (if available) be provided

We handle masking and protection of surrounding areas.

Does brick staining work on all brick?

Most brick can be stained successfully. However, extremely sealed, glazed, or previously painted surfaces may require special preparation — or may not be suitable.

We assess each surface before committing to the project.

Is this better than replacing brick?

In many cases, yes.

Brick replacement is significantly more expensive, invasive, and time-consuming. Staining provides a dramatic visual transformation at a fraction of the cost and disruption.

Do you offer commercial services?

Yes. Brick Redo works on residential homes, multifamily buildings, retail properties, and commercial exteriors.
